The University of Texas at Austin Admissions Guide

The University of Texas at Austin, one of the most highly ranked universities in the world, is known for its pioneering and entrepreneurial spirit. So, when our friends at the advertising agency, The Shop, reached out to collaborate on reimaging UT’s admissions guide, we jumped at the opportunity.

The Shop’s theme for the piece, “All roads lead to Austin”, centered on the insight that top-ranked programs, and a big-time collegiate experience in one of the most creative and vibrant cities, makes UT an obvious choice for potential students. This would be brought to life through their killer idea to complement the brochure with a poster-sized illustrated decision tree, highlighting iconic Austin landmarks and other cultural amenities found throughout the city.

We were tasked with bringing these ideas to life through a visually engaging presentation that is youthful, energetic, and more representative of the creativity of Austin, all while working within parameters established in the UT brand standards. Our design solution can best be described as a controlled collage – mixing textures, bold type, duotone photos, and custom hand-drawn illustrations and a Yes/No poster by Lauri Johnston.

And rather than pairing the brochure with an illustrated poster, we made the brochure the poster. Like an old-school road map, this unique format takes the reader on a journey, where each turn of a panel reveals more information and unfolds a larger story that culminates in a big picture view of the many and diverse benefits UT and the city of Austin have to offer.
